Though I am a new arrival in Bangalore, I have come to appreciate the will to experiment with (possibly customer patience) and deliver new technology. Here in Bangalore (tee hee, multiple power cuts as I type at around midnight local time) there is a sizeable WiMAX network and multiple service providers.
There are many towers (base stations) around the city (at one point Tata Communications kicked off with 140!). Each tower covers a radius of 5 to 6 km.
In a nutshell, this gives scope for doing ones work whilst sat on a park bench. WiFi and coffee shops are just so passé – and why else would one be interested in technology ;-)
ADDENDUM: though there is WiMAX in the Brisbane, Australia area – like Big Air – it does seem that the mobile phone market (3.5G / HSDPA) is getting all the action. A prime example is Three with their Mobile Broadband USB modems.
