Seems like one can do simple drawing with the Gimp. Drawing straight lines I just learnt.
Pick the pencil, then over the canvas hold down shift to see the straight rubber-band line. Click the mouse button to make it permanent.
Pretty much the only thing I needed to create something by hand. Though Text is ANNOYING! Being unable to draw again after adding text to an image was answered as such
Text is added to its own layer. The canvas of that layer is limited to the Text area. To expand the canvas to the image size you can:
1. Open the Layers dialogue (Ctrl L )
2. Right click the Text layer
3a. Set the “Layer to the Image Size”.
or
3b. “Merge Down” the text layer onto the layer below.
In practice it is better to use (3a) and leave the text on its own layer, and shift the focus to a different layer for drawing.
All that to record a little wiring which was interesting because there were two cables to an old fitting. Two hot wires (Red) in a loop. One black wire marked N(eutral), one with an “A”!
Well one cable (with earth) is the “live loop in”. The loop drops live back to the switch. The neutral that is left, is now the switched live (of course not marked with a red or brown tape / sleeve to indicate this – tut, tut!).
OK so Neutral from ‘live in’ should be extended to N(eutral) on the light, leaving the switched live (second black cable) to go to L(ive) on said same light.
You could of course ignore the switch cable and take live from the loop – if you like your light on permanently of course :-)
