Well I gave up and bought another clie online for 40. It was not the memorystick I tried to pull the cable in and out until I broke it.

Sometimes it works sometimes it didn't however the memorysticks were fine my clie was damaged.

I replaced the factory battery on my newer used clie with the higher capacity one and things are chugging away fine.

I decided to post this because I don't want to leave you hanging.

Memory stick most likely purchased faulty!

But just in case you did or yet might, don't leave the power connector (and power) attached when you connect the battery!

Well bad news it charged but then the memory stick failed yet again and then the battery died and shorted out.

I will have to RMA it again because the battery is dead it will not work at all.

That is very good to hear .

Don't forget to backup or sync regularly, when this device was my PDA, I would on occasion lose new data from leaving that battery run flat!

Well you've sorted it all on your own! Good stuff :-) . Alex

Received the 10 dollar screwdriver I ordered from Amazon removed the battery and it worked. I was panicking because the memory card wasn't reading but I let it charge for an hour and everything worked.

I also ordered a 12 dollar memory card for this handheld and that worked great as well.

Thanks and this was a really good thread. The only screws that were rusted were the ones in the side. The small flat phillips screwdriver didn't work I don't know who could remove it with that but hey whatever it was free.

OK, I'm following you again :-)

As I never had a Y screwdriver I don't really know what size, sorry!

if the screws are rusted in then you have yet another issue.

Maybe try a tiny amount of WD40 (or whatever equates to a penetrating oil in your local stores). A few repeat attempts (oil, wait an hour or whatever, try to unscrew, repeat) to help release the thread would be worth a go!

But if really very rusted then maybe a small drill bit will be your only option!

In my case it was only the 2 Y head screws (back plate, at the bottom) that I had to drill out - but please, if you consider this, be careful, the plastic could drill away VERY quickly and you could potentially push the screw through the front of the device!

The drill really is your last resort and only if you feel there is nothing to lose, otherwise maybe seek assistance.

Yeah I reread your posts sorry that I misread it. They give a small phillips flat screwdriver which suppose to work with the y screws, but the one they gave me is too small.

It worked for others but the screws are rusted in.
