Alex Garrett

I am a software developer based in sunny Brisbane, Australia. I address large or complex projects for government and commercial interests. I can be contracted long term for larger projects and also operate independently via

http://www.lexecorp.com

So far I have done projects in Australia, the UK and Japan. I have citizenship in the first two and work visa access to Japan.

I believe in being approachable so if you have a problem, just drop me an email. But if you have a bigger ‘project size’ requirement – maybe consider hiring me!

I have been working in the industry for 22+ years, everything from University systems to scientific research, software house products to real-time control systems. My key skills are here.

I’m a great believer in Open Source Software, contributing technical articles, code and ‘opinionated blogging’ on the latest in programming languages and technologies.

I started programming as a science undergraduate, using a ZX Spectrum and the Forth programming language. I received a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Hons) in 1986.

In 1987 I embarked on a Masters in Computing Science, graduating in ’89, with the bonus of a programmer placement garnering experience at the Proof and Experimental Establishments, British M.o.D.

I’ve worked on a very wide range of software projects, some clients here. If you want more detail, please email me for a resume pdf.

I’m often asked for both commendations and references, so these may assist.

If I have any claims to fame, I’m quite proud of the fact that I have been

Ported MetOffice‘s weather visualisation product, Horace, to Linux (5 million lines of code!)

Core developer of the Geolog6 product suite at Paradigm Geophysical and Mincom.
